Sorry--I thought it was a young person debating/asking. It's a long story and I'm flip between 2 foras. Apologies.

Default religious purity

i think that the major reason why the world is dominated by religious cults is that these religions water themselves down to stay relevant while science and innovation exponentially develop. my opinion is that if you want to be a christian, you have to believe that the world was literally created in 6 days 6,000 years ago. forget carbon dating, fossil record and natural selection. if you want to be religious you have embrace the unadulterated insanity of the holy book. if people continue to "interpret" the bible to allow for things like evolution and modern civility and anti-slavery, then religion will never die. the bible clearly contradicts the thory of evolution, condones killing for negligible offences, and permits the ownership and abuse of slaves. if you dont agree with these ideas, then YOU ARE NON-RELIGIOUS. stop calling yourself a "moderate" christian or a "moderate" muslim. your religion is clearly immoral, irrelevant, and detrimental to modern philosophy and science.

What in the world makes you think that belief in an allegorical or figurative interpretation of the creation story makes you a moderate Christian? Why in the world would a Christian take it on the word of an anti-Christian or a handful of nutball bible thumpers that in order to be a genuine hardcore Christian one must accept the bible creation story as literal?

Question for you. Where did science and philosophy come from? Do you think it was discovered in a vacuum? Also, since you think you have the authority to define who is or is not "religious"--I would first go look up what defines religion and the religious. Anyone that has investigated for oneself what defines a religion(3 C's) and what that those religious beliefs are, to think them "immoral, irrelevant and detrimental" is what I would define as a pathological lier without realizing it(no offense).

BTW-even the "non-religious" have a creed, code and ceremony.

So I take it your one of the "non-religous". Let me ask you this.Do you believe in evolution, if you do then you are a religous person. By faith you believe that the big bang occured or whatever you might think about the universe's origin, you were not there and therefore can not know. Hydrogen to man evolution is not science. Science is what can be observed and tested. It is a faith statement.

The dating methods,highly inaccurate.
Mt. Ngauruhoe Andesite (Mt. Doom, from Lord of the Rings, FYI): Rocks of known age (APROXIMATELY 50 YEARS OLD) showed the following results, according to the different dating methods:

K-Ar (Potassium Argon) .27 to 3.5 million years
Rb-Sr (Rubidium Strontium) 133 million years, + or - 87 million years
Sm-Nd (Samarium Neodymium) 197 million + or - 160 million years
Pb (lead) 3908 + or - 390 million years

So the rocks of this mountain, are somewhere between 270,000 years old, and 4 billion years old, depending on which test is done. These tests were done by independent laboratories, with no knowledge of other samples (a blind test). This, and many other examples of the uselessness of Radiometric dating, can be found on page 126-127 of the book "Thousands, not billions" which is a "Laymen's version" of the published results of the R.A.T.E. project.

The fossil record has huge gaps. Fossil records from the pre-cambrian going to the cambrian period has a major gap, known as the "cambrian explosion". They found fossils of tiny creatures that lived on the ocean floor, most of which were sedentary, to massive alien like crustaceans, with no transitional stages. Darwin said nature has no gaps if this were so we would be back at a miracle; and gaps are exactly what we have found.

A young earth creationist does not deny natural selection or microevoltion these are foundational to ones beliefs.

henson, you disappoint me. I thought you'd at least give it a : copulating clocks, the age of pendulums, the age of clocks. I don't care which side of the debate you're on, that's just funny.
